on Mar 13th, 2009Continual improvement

Just when you think you have weddings and your photography all figured out, the industry changes.

Digital!

This has meant new cameras, new lenses, new computers, new software, a very steep learning curve, changing from JPEGs to RAWs, getting a website, add a  blog to that, improve the site, get online galleries, get slideshows embedded in the site, finding the right hosting environment for the site and blog, new digitally designed photobooks, learn colour management (the lab did all that in the days of film), new wireless networking, extra hard drives and back up software (after learning the hard way), new updated demo albums, adding slideshows to most packages, finding which forms of marketing works and which don’t to name but a few of the improvements Wedding Stills has made over the last two to three years. And all of this at the right price.

But it doesn’t stop there either.

We are now mailing out demo discs on request to brides who provide their address on email enquiries.

In the very near future we will have -

  • a double page advertorial in the very stylish and current bridal magazine “White” (a separate post coming on this when it is published).
  • a large A3 sized wedding photobook added as a demo (in addition to our A4 sized one). These are proving very popular.
  • a specific marketing slideshow aimed at showing our product and style to enquiring brides (and the occasional groom).

We are currently researching -

  • mini photobooks to be used as proofing albums (containing thumbnails of all your images).
  • digital photo frames as optional extra’s or parents packs (consistent with the market moving more towards electronic media).
  • putting your wedding images and slideshows onto your phone (which you can use a portable brag book).
  • mini digital photo frames are also being looked at for the same purpose.
  • the next version of the website with improved slideshow and downloads page.
  • a new version of the blog optimised for images and more stable.
  • new software (high dynamic range) which will assist in editing difficult photos.
  • new laptop with screen useable as a graphics tablet (to be used for demo’s, graphics work, backup, travel).
  • the work and style of other successful wedding photographers.
  • marketing through bridal and wedding expos and shows.
  • watermarking of our online images.
  • an online store for sale of images.
  • new image stablised tele lense.

on Feb 13th, 2009Sar and Trevors slideshow uploaded

An animated 5 minute slideshow with background music and about 100 images has been uploaded to the Photodex server.
Click on the link below to be taken to “Sar and Trevors” album on the Photodex website.
Click on the show.
You will be prompted to download the Photodex Presenter (this is a small piece of software that is needed to run the show on your machine).
Install the Photodex Presenter.
After you have installed Presenter, click on the show.
It will “buffer” for a short time, while it puts data onto your computer for smooth show, but … well worth the wait!

on Feb 12th, 2009Sariah and Trevor in Brunei

As mentioned in an earlier post on this blog, my good friend Trevor married his beautiful Asian bride Sariah on Saturday 24th January in Brunei.

Sariah was absolutely gorgeous in her white gown however she is not used to being photographed, she is very camera shy. But between Trevors smooth charms and my daughters coaxing we managed to get out of her that very warm smile that I know she has in there. I think we succeeded.

The church was air conditioned, fortunately, but the park even though it was late evening, was extremely muggy. All my running around probably didn’t help. And January is their coolest month! Racing the fading light we got it all done just in time.

The attendants, Nadia the bridesmaid, Chris the best man and little Daniel all look the part. My two new facebook friends Eric (a Nikon man) and Tommy (a Canon man) followed us around and were taking lots of shots as well, many of them quite good if the facebook albums are anything to go by. It must be my imagination, but these young fella’s seemed to be taking more shots of Nadia than the bride.

The reception at the Chinese Restaurant that evening saw a number of traditional “murut” (one of the native Malay tribes) dances, contemporary dance and musical items and gift giving. The food was really, really good. With nearly 300 people there it was one of the largest receptions I’ve been to.

Thanks to the efforts of my daughter Sharon, Wedding Stills is now on facebook.

We invite all past, present and future Wedding Stills brides to join the group. We will be adding new and relevant content to the group on a regular basis and linking between this site and the Wedding Stills facebook group.

Over the past few days there was a sudden spike in hits on the site after Sharon sent invitations out to nearly 300 people.
